If you are considering living and/or working in Zürich or Geneva, the deVere & Partners Group’s newest locations, you have very good reasons to do so.
In terms of quality of living, Zürich and Geneva are the best cities in the world - according to the renowned Mercer Consulting survey, published in April 2007.
Apart from being an extraordinarily superior location for business, the Zürich is widely considered among the very best in terms of its lifestyle features. Zürich was named the city with the best quality of life in the world according to several surveys in 2006 and 2007. It has held the first-place ranking for several years running.
Its extraordinary – and repeated - quality of life ranking also most certainly plays a role in Zürich’s economic success.
Swiss cities feature especially good health services, banking services and low crime rates. Switzerland also has strong domestic stability and outstanding international relationships.
The Mercer analysis is based on an evaluation of 39 quality of living criteria for each city, including political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and other public services.
Along with Geneva, Zürich also remains on the top of the list of the 50 best cities for Expat staff. It features a high standard of living, superior educational facilities and an outstanding public transport system.
In third place in the Mercer survey was Vancouver, followed by Vienna, Auckland, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. Paris, London and Madrid are in the lower half of the top-50 table. Paris ranked 33rd; London, 39th; and Madrid 42nd – three slots higher than in the previous year.
Honolulu, at 27th, is the highest ranking city in the United States; Houston, at 68th, is the lowest. Tokyo placed 35th, Hong Kong is 68th, and Shanghai is in 103rd place.
On the bottom of the entire list, with a score of 14.5, was Baghdad. No surprise there.
Other cities ranking low were Brazzaville in Congo, Bangui in the Central African Republic and Khartoum in Sudan.
The survey reflected an increasingly widening gap between low-ranking and high-ranking cities. “While standards have improved in some regions, there remains a stark contrast between those cities where overall quality of living is good and those experiencing political and economic turmoil,” Mercer said.
