I studied Business Management at Imperial College in London, and started looking for a job toward the end of my second year. I applied to all of the usual investment houses and received a few offers, but I wanted something more. When I found the Recruits Offshore website whilst browsing for job vacancies with companies in the global financial service market, I could instantly see myself working for one of their Client companies. I sent through my details via the website, and about an hour later I had arranged to meet the companies’ Managing Director at Heathrow Airport for a meeting with him and some other potential new graduate recruits.
The Managing Director is the most energetic guy you will ever meet. He was very entertaining and was clearly very proud of his company - and it was definitely something I wanted to be part of. The next stage was an interview and some tests, which all went very smoothly. I made my way to the next stage, which was a two-day training seminar in Birmingham. It was a great two days that really got you in the mood for getting stuck in straight away. Norman and Andy – the Trainers - were both informative and amusing, and I was amazed at what I learnt in those two days. I found out at the end of the second day that I got the job with deVere & Partners. The process is slick, efficient and gets the job done. There was no hanging around the phone waiting for it to ring like with most global corporations!
As for location, I wanted to throw myself in at the deep end. I looked at the figures for each location and saw Hong Kong was at the top of the pile. That’s where the most business seemed to be happening, and so that was where I wanted to be. I’ve been here a month now, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Hong Kong is an amazing city to work in, where the attitude is to really work hard – but to play equally hard! The people in the office are incredibly driven and it’s very motivating to work with them, and to be part of the team. I think, with this company, you get out what you put in. If you put in the effort, and go the proverbial extra mile, it really will pay dividends. There is no other company in the world that can provide what deVere & Partners can.

deVere & Partners offers a fantastic two-day intensive Graduate Sales Training Course for prospective Sales Coordinators. The Course offers valuable insight into the Financial Advisory Services sector, and specific advice about the position - which provides new Coordinators with a solid understanding about their role and tips on how to be successful at it.
The Training included a broad overview of the deVere & Partners Group, the offshore global financial services marketplace and the role of Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs). The Course also outlined the potential career track for new graduates, including the opportunity to be fast-tracked into an IFA position, and the option to relocate every six months.
It is all very exciting if you want to travel a lot and experience new cultures, while earning good money and furthering your career!
The Trainers provided very interesting insight into the Offshore Financial Services industry, along with information on some of the products and funds available. This was really helpful, especially for me – as I have no prior experience in the Financial Services field.
In addition to this, we were provided with a selection of scripts, which each of us customised to suit our individual strengths and personalities. This meant that, when I arrived onsite in Kuala Lumpur, I was already confident with what I was saying - which gave me a great head start!
Questions – of which I had lots – were all answered well and in detail. When the Trainers were unsure about something, they were still able to point me in the right direction for the relevant information. They also provided a great deal of background about the teams we would be working with, the local Management, and the culture of each of the countries to which we were assigned.
Unfortunately the Trainers weren’t able to tell me if I was allowed to wear ‘open toed’ shoes...so I had to asked my manager, John, and haven’t been able to live it down since!!!

I recently completed my degree from Bournemouth University, obtaining a BA Honours in Computer-Aided Product Design. I came across the Recruits Offshore website whilst browsing the Internet for job vacancies abroad. When I read through the information, it pretty much ticked all my boxes: the chance to work in an exciting expatriate location, for a leading company in the global financial services industry, with career progression opportunities and the chance to earn a significant income. The role described on the site and the potential of the job sounded almost too good to be true. However, having been in the company – PIC Middle East - for a few months, now I’ve seen for my own eyes that it is possible to achieve what was described. I’ve seen people achieving it.
I wouldn’t say it’s easy to be a success, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. However, it is certainly achievable, and there is constant help and support in the office to ensure you have the highest possible chance of succeeding.
The thing that has surprised me most about the company is the high morale and upbeat atmosphere in the workplace. It sounds like a cliché, but the mentality is very much one of ‘work hard, play hard’ and everyone in the office is eager to help each other wherever possible.
I found the recruitment and training very helpful; when I arrived on the job I wasn’t presented with any hugely unexpected scenarios. The guys doing the sales training were very friendly and willing to answer any and all questions as honestly as possible. If there was anything they were unsure about at the time, they said as much ,and guaranteed to find out in due course. I found the training was organised and paced very well and that it put my mind at rest.
All-in-all, I’m excited about the prospect of being with the deVere Group for many years to come.
